GUIDELINES FOR THE “DISTINGUISHED CONTRIBUTION TO MARRIAGE AND
FAMILY LIFE AWARD”

Honors and Scholarship Committee
The KAMFT Board of Directors annually considers nominations for the Distinguished Contribution to Marriage and Family Life Award. The award may be given to a KAMFT member or a non-member. The award has the following categories:
Community
Therapeutic
Leadership
Lifetime Achievement
Examples of individuals who could be considered for this award in the Community realm might be persons who serve as educators, clergy, judges, legislators, and community leaders. Potential nominees in the Therapeutic realm might be individuals in private practice, serving in clinics or agencies, individuals doing research in the field, someone who may have developed specialized therapies in the area of marriage and family therapy. Potential nominees in the Leadership realm might be those who have provided exceptional service developing programs, changing legislation, organizing, or fostering change on a wide scale basis, or otherwise bringing improvements to marriage and family on behalf of Kentucky . Potential nominees for Lifetime Achievement might be those who have demonstrated distinguished service to the field for over 30 years.
The criteria for the award are assessed on the merits of the nominee's contribution to marriage and family well being within the state of Kentucky . Membership, including associate and student members of the Kentucky Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, will be given the opportunity to nominate candidates for an award on an annual basis (in other words, nominations will not be carried over from year to year). Board members as well as members from the Honors Committee may also make nominations. Persons wishing to nominate will be expected to provide the following information:
1) The category: ( Community ), non-KAMFT, or KAMFT member, or ( Therapeutic ), non-KAMFT, or KAMFT member; ( Leadership or Lifetime Achievement), non-KAMFT or KAMFT member;
2) T he nominator's and the nominee's address, phone, fax, and E-mail information;
3) Supporting material, which includes a one- page description with specific reasons for the nomination, together with examples, or illustrations of the nominee's contributions to marriage and family life. A vita must be included also. Incomplete information will not be considered.
4) The nominee must be informed and agree to be present to receive the award.
The Bill Greenwalt Memorial Award , a graduate student cash award of $1,000, will also be given by KAMFT. Faculty members at the Graduate Marriage and Family Therapy Programs will be contacted each year by the Honors committee.
