HOW DO I BECOME A MEMBER OF KAMFT?
We are pleased to welcome you as a prospective member of our statewide professional organization of similarly trained therapists who share the belief that the family is the most efficient and effective place of intervention when mental health problems surface for one of its members!
KAMFT is the Kentucky division of AAMFT, our national organization for Marriage and Family therapists. Your membership in KAMFT activates automatically when you join AAMFT. When you join AAMFT, your contact information is forwarded to our KAMFT leadership and you will begin receiving our quarterly newsletter, news of our highly regarded statewide training offerings and conferences, information related to state legislative efforts that may affect Marriage and Family Therapists, and other information relevant to your profession. The many benefits of membership in AAMFT / KAMFT include:
- TherapistLocator.net. A free online listing directory of clinical members available to the consumer. The directory can be expanded with picture and other practice information composed and easily updated by the member.
- On-line job connection which allows employers to list position vacancies and allows members to post resumes.
- Free Legal consultations. Consultations (phone or online) can be scheduled by clinical members twice annually with the AAMFT attorney.
- Free Ethics consultations regarding hypothetical situations.
- Collegiality and networking with other local and national “systems” thinkers
- Online access to professionally written articles on topics of current interest that can be used with clients or for one’s own professional interest.
- Professional journals, magazines, and newsletters to keep you informed on current events, clinical developments, therapy theory and clinical practice, qualitative and quantitative research, and training opportunities.
- Discounts on software, practice tools, training tapes.
- Policy and Advocacy—AAMFT/KAMFT staff, leadership and lobbyists meet regularly with legislators and the principals of health care organizations to advocate for the inclusion of family therapy wherever appropriate at State and National levels.
- Specific connections with several types of insurance companies—liability insurance, health insurance, disability insurance, life insurance—geared toward the MFT practitioner.
- A KAMFT discount coupon for students and associate members good for $50.00 off any KAMFT sponsored training during the year they upgrade their membership to the next level.
There are several ways to complete the membership process:
- Call the AAMFT on 703.838.9808 to request a hard copy application
- Go online to www.aamft.org/resources/Application_tree and complete the application process
- E-mail AAMFT at central.aamft.org to make your request.
The leadership of KAMFT will be glad to assist you. Please visit our website at www.kamft.org. You may also contact our President, Toddy Holeman at Toddy_Holeman@asburyseminary.edu or our Executive Director, Mike Rankin at 502.494.2929 or Jane Prouty, our Vice President for Membership & Ethics, at 270.763.0728.
